###### **This article pertains to:** [Inform (v2)]

---

To get started using the Validic Inform API, you only need a few basic items:

- Your Validic Organization ID
- Your Validic Access Token

If you do not have those, you can contact your Client Success Executive, Implementation Specialist, or the Validic Support Team for assistance.

Once you have those, you can start using the Inform API. The first thing you will want to do is [provision (or create) a user](https://helpdocs.validic.com/docs/provision-and-managing-users). To do this, you must have a de-identified unique ID for each user. When the user is successfully created, you will get a response from the API that includes several pieces of data specific to that user. The most important ones that you will want to be sure to save are:

- Validic user ID
- Marketplace Token
- Marketplace URL
- Mobile Token

Now that you have a user, it’s time to have that user connect to a data source. To do that, you can navigate via. web browser to the Marketplace URL that you saved previously. That URL will start with s[yncmydevice.com.](http://syncmydevice.com)

Once you are on that page, you can now choose an integration (or several) that you want to sync to in order to have the data available in the Validic API. For basic testing, Fitbit is always a good choice because they are able to provide most of the types of data you can expect in the API, and you don’t have to purchase a wearable device to generate data. The free Fitbit mobile phone app can track everything.

The next step is to generate some data. You can either manually enter some data in the Fitbit app, or use the phone or device to track some steps, exercise, etc.

Now that the user has generated data, you can find it in the Validic Inform API. This can be done with the [Streaming API](https://validic.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/OPS/pages/32210947/Apps+That+Require+Direct+Application+or+Additional+Information) or a basic [REST API call](https://helpdocs.validic.com/docs/inform-rest-api). You now will want to generate various types of data to become familiar with the [Validic Data Model](https://helpdocs.validic.com/docs/working-with-data).

After you have gone through these basic setup tests, you should now be ready to incorporate the Validic API data into your own program. Be sure to fully read and understand the [Validic API Documentation](https://helpdocs.validic.com/docs) and work with your Implementation Specialist for help as you need it.
